Who doesn’t love a rooftop bar in Summer – fresh air, the breeze, sunshine – and if you’re lucky, a view. Melbourne has its fair share of rooftop bars though not all are wheelchair-friendly. Here are our favourites that are.

Naked in the Sky

A great rooftop space with two magic views; one of the Melbourne city skyline the other up north to Brunswick Street. This is a favourite of locals and tourist so can get busy – best to secure a spot early if you can. Getting up amongst it requires access to the lift – just ask the bar staff at the street-level ‘Naked for Satan’. Best at sundown. Or anytime, really.

The Corner Hotel

Richmond’s Swan Street is dusting off the boozy, post-footy vibe and becoming more discerning by the day. The new comers are budding but The Corner has history (and access). Downstairs you can enjoy the pool tables and live music & upstairs via the lift (enter via Botherambo St) you’ll find an airy bar & eating area. The menu well worth a look and the staff are welcoming. There is mixed seating, a retractable roof. Pot plants offer a softness to the industrial conversion.

The Terminus

The outside view isn’t spectacular but the atmosphere is the reason we like it here. Also, it’s not so much a rooftop as a terrace. Sand Hill Road group have refurbished the place tastefully with a nod to the original design. The addition of the lift and accessible restrooms is commended. A maritime theme in one bar and tidy modern in another. The menu is a bit special here – check out the site for full details.

Transit Rooftop Bar

A solid go-to bar in Melbourne. It’s centrally located opposite Flinders Street Station in Federation Square above ‘Transport’. The view here is pretty darn special across the Yarra River and the Arts Centre. There’s a bar menu and a familiar range of drinks. There is mixed seating (though mostly stools outside) and it’s breezy. A good spot for a tipple before heading out. Ideal at dusk or just after with Live music Friday & Sunday.
